This study was carried out in 70 infants who was born at Holy Family Hospital, Catholic Medical College, from Aug.1, 1984 to Nov.30, 1984.
They were divided into the following three groups depending on the pattern of the labor; spontaneous labor (30 infants), oxytocin accelerated labor (20 infants) and oxytocin induced labor (20 infants).
The results were as follows
1) A significant increase in serum bilirubin concentrations was found in infants born after oxytocin induced labor compared with those born spontaneously.
2) The incidence of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in the infants born after oxytocin induced and accelerated labor was higher than those born spontaneously.
